I want to buy some cloth diapers for my newborn this time around. Pictured here are the Rumparooz Lil' Joeys. Crazy? I did some math. The first two months of diapering in disposables will cost 180 dollars. For this same amount I can get just enough newborn diapers to do laundry everyday. I would throw them in the washer at supper time, in the dryer at bedtime, and have clean diapers in the morning.
The only gamble is...what if this baby is ginormous? What if I buy teeny diapers, and the baby already fits the BumGenius One Size I have at two weeks old? Also, what if I'm underestimating being a mom of two? What if I'm exhausted at suppertime and the idea of one more chore makes me bawl my eyes out?
Decisions, decisions...
Opinions?

You can bawl your eyes out and put diapers in the washer at the same time! : ) I say go for it. You're saving the planet, after all. And they are so cute. Just keep a pack or two of Pampers Swaddlers in the closet for the days when the cloth diapers don't get washed. Easy. : )
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree with Felic. Keep some Pampers on hand, in case when you're crying you forget to put the diapers in the wash. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, cloth was too much for me when I tried it with my first newborn, but I didn't have any of the cool, newer tools. My concern with this baby is that I would spend the money and still get overwhelmed and give up.
But see, you've already successfully done it once! You should totally try for it again. And you have all this moral support from your friends and family. Surely one or two of them could put diapers in the wash for you those first couple of weeks. . . :)
Well, they were simply too adorable not to buy anyway. I think since you've already done it once, washing diapers will feel like part of your routine. good choice!
ReplyDeleteI think you should go for it. Personally, I thought EVERYTHING with my second was so much easier compared to the first time I had to do it.It felt more like "I got this!" compared to "what the heck am I doing??" LOL. You'll be fine ;)
